Recovery Caesar

Work is tomorrow and it’s day 3 of Stampede. The Recovery Caesar was created to efficiently administer vitamins and snacks to Stampeding individuals, but anybody who likes Caesars will enjoy this spicy mocktail.

First a disclaimer: The Recovery Caesar is not medicine and does not cure or treat any medical conditions or illness. I am not a doctor. Any reference to recovery is for enertainment purposes only. And now that that’s out of the way:

Caesars were invented in Calgary, which is why, as a born and raised Calgarian, I have the special powers required to veganize it. A typical Caesar uses Clamato juice, which isn’t vegan-friendly for obvious reasons (it’s the clams). We’re going to sub vegetable cocktail for the Clamato, and a shot of pickle juice for an electrolyte boost, along with the rim.

A note regarding vegan worchestershire: you can buy brands that say vegan and even gluten-free right on the bottle, and these sauces will cost you $10 each. Which is fine if you need to avoid gluten. However, if you tolerate it fine and you’re looking for a strictly vegan substitute, Compliments brand carried by Safeway and Sobey’s is anchovey free, and therefore vegan friendly. And it’s under $5. Or at least it was a the time this was published – always double check ingredients just in case.

A Recovery Caesar isn’t complete without multiple snacks; a grilled cheeze was chosen not only for it’s comfort factor, but also because it complements the tomato-based drink. For the purposes of these photos, I used a mix of Chao and Parmela cheezes and the result was super melty and gooey, if that’s your goal. Personally I’d prefer a toasted cashew cheeze sammich but it didn’t look as nice.

Additional snacks like celery and a pickled vegetable or two are customary, and I fully recommend going ham on the extras. Your beverage will look extra impressive plus you get to enjoy more snacks.

We’re already 3 days into 10 Days of Vegan Stampede 2024! Have you tried any recipes so far? Don’t forget to tag me – @veganinyyc – and/or use the hashtag #10daysofveganstampede so I can see em. I’ll be back tomorrow with Day 4; enjoy your recovery!
