Chick’n Bakun Jalapeno Maple Cheeze Fries

A pleasant mix of sweet and spicy, these fries are anything but ordinary!

This is one of those over-the-top Stampede foods that caught my eye, and I’m glad I decided to give it a vegan upgrade. Plantbased Footprint’s Nacho Average Queso has once again graciously sponsored this recipe, making it even easier to enjoy these delicious cheezy fries. This time I used their Jalapeno version to give these cheezy fries an extra hit of spice!

The hot & sweet maple sauce is similar to a hot honey mustard and rounds these fries out nicely. And if you’re in the mood for an even bigger kick, use a spicy chick’n tender like Gardein’s Nashville Hot.

Use whatever bakun bits YOU prefer; I am a big fan of the crunchy fake bacon bits, particularly after rehydrating them as they tend to have more of a bacon-y texture. The taste is familiar – many of us have been eating them for most of our lives before ever realizing they were vegan. Some of them are even B12 fortified! To rehydrate the bits, put them into a small container, and add just enough hot water to cover them. Let them sit about 5 minutes, stirring once to make sure all the water gets absorbed. Then they’re ready to use!

And that’s a wrap on Day 4 of 10 Days of Vegan Stampede. Any favourites so far? Don’t forget, if you decide to try any of these recipes, tag me – @veganinyyc and use the hashtag #10daysofveganstampede so I can see them!
